The Qualitative Factors That Affect Teacher Distribution

Recent research offers convincing evidence that the teacher is the most important school-level factor in a student’s achievement. What’s more, the contribution of teachers has been shown to be especially important when it comes to the achievement of low-income students, who tend to have fewer learning supports outside of school.

Because of teachers’ importance in the academic success of students, school systems need to know what factors are involved in hiring and retaining high-quality teachers. Based on a request by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, NWCC’s Basha Krasnoff reviewed the literature and developed a synthesis of the research on this topic.
