Balancing Autonomy and Comparability: State Approaches to Assessment Selection for Student Learning Objectives

The Center on Great Teachers & Leaders released a brief identifying four common approaches to assessments that prioritize teacher autonomy and comparability to different degrees. The brief discusses the benefits and drawbacks of each approach and includes examples from the field. The GTL Center offer this information to inform state-level planning for strengthening SLO processes and procedures only and do not endorse any of the approaches or examples.
