Profiles of Teachers’ Professional Performance Ratings

NWCC developed a set of profiles to demonstrate differences between what an observer sees in the classroom and how he or she writes about it on a teacher evaluation form. The ratings address five domains:

  1. Classroom Strategies and Behavior
  2. Planning and Preparing
  3. Reflecting on Teaching
  4. Collegiality and Professionalism
  5. Student Growth Data

Using the forms, the observer rates the teacher in each domain on a scale that ranges from unsatisfactory to basic to proficient to exemplary. For each domain, the observer records the reasons for the rating, summarizing the supporting evidence.

These examples can be used as part of an activity in which participants decide to what extent they agree with the ratings and proposed supports.
