Mandy Smoker-Broaddus, Montana’s director of Indian education
Native American students have the lowest graduation rate among all racial and ethnic groups across the five Northwest states. That dire fact fueled the conversation at a recent meeting of Indian education coordinators from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Convened by the Northwest Comprehensive Center (NWCC), the January meeting focused on sharing information and lessons learned about each state’s priorities for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) education, as well as identifying opportunities for collaboration.
